About the Workshop

We are pleased to invite submissions for the First IZA Workshop: Climate Change and Labor Markets, to be held virtually on Monday July 5th, starting at 5pm German time/4pm UK time/11am East Coast US time.
IZA would like to encourage new research work in this important area. Global warming is increasing the frequency of extreme climatic conditions across the world. Despite efforts to mitigate the extent of climate change, exposure to extreme events such as heatwaves, floods, and hurricanes will become more prevalent for the entire world’s population. In addition to causing damages to the environment and human health, climate change as well as adaptation to global warming pose challenges for the functioning of labor markets. In particular, this raises questions about the implications of climate change for a range of labor market outcomes, among others human capital formation, migration decisions, location decisions of firms, labor supply and productivity of workers, and labor demand across occupations.
The aim of the First IZA Workshop on Climate Change and Labor Markets is to bring together researchers analyzing these and other implications of climate change or climate change adaptation for labor markets. We hope to allow wide-ranging discussion in this online conference setting.
The opening to the conference will be delivered by Lord Nicholas Stern (London School of Economics).

Submission

Please submit papers by April 5, 2021 using our online application form. Preference will be given to full papers but we may consider extended abstracts if the paper will definitely be finished in time for the workshop. Notifications will be sent by May 17, 2021.
Note: Submissions are open to all, and all submitters will be invited to attend (virtually). All interested researchers will be able to sign up to live-stream the event. Please feel free to share this call for papers with others who may have relevant research to present.
